The secret inside Superbugkiller
Sorry to disappoint you but it is common everyday Silver. For centuries Silver has been used successfully against infections but only recently has it's antimicrobial properties been acknowledged by the medical profession. In the middle ages wealthy families would buy silver spoons for their infants to suck on due to their health giving properties - hence the saying "born with a silver spoon in their mouth". Today, the inside of refrigerators are made form Silver-containing materials to meet hygienic requirements.
How does Superbugkiller Work?
Superbugkiller releases Silver ions when in contact with air or moisture. These ions interfere with bacteria replication (which takes place every 20 minutes) by blocking oxygen-transporting enzymes, inactivating sulphur-containing proteins and locking cell membranes. Basically, Silver ions rapidly kills microbes by blocking the cell respiration pathway. The speed of this action is almost instantaneous once the silver reaches the microbe.
How is Superbugkiller used in our garments?
Superbugkiller is applied to the fabrics where it anchors itself to the yarn gaps and is permanently bonded. This makes the treatment resistant to washing and dry cleaning without affecting the handle of the garment. We guarantee all our garments will have active Superbugkiller in them for the first 50 washes.
How safe is Superbugkiller?
The beauty of using silver is that it is non-toxic to human cells but deadly to single cell organisms such as bacteria. Silver ions act only as a catalyst for the reactions, thus it is long lasting and perfectly safe.
How long does Superbugkiller last?
Superbugkiller is effective in very small quantities - 1 part per billion of silver ions can inhibit bacterial growth significantly. This low efficacy means that Superbugkiller has a virtually infinite source.
What about resistance to Superbugkiller?
Because of the three mechanisms of action, microbial resistance to silver itself has not been reported.
What does Superbugkiller protect against?
Independent laboratory tests on Superbugkiller shows that it has in excess of 99.99% reduction on gram positive/negative bacteria, funghi, moulds and algae. It not only protects against microbe infection but also inhibits the growth of odour causing bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus.
